What role should economic analysis have in antitrust policy?

The overarching goal of antitrust enforcement is to ensure competition. After nearly twenty years of a "less is more" approach to antitrust, beginning under the Clinton Administration the U.S. Department of Justice began to take an aggressive stance against big corporations such as Microsoft, Visa, and Mastercard. Do the benefits of these antitrust policies outweigh the costs? Are these antitrust activities an aberration, or do they signal a return to an era in which the federal government prefers regulation to market-based outcomes? Scholars attempt to answer these questions in this section's publications
